Great little Stove
The GBS Mariner 4 KW stove is a great looking little stove, It's all installed but won't be lighting it until later in the year so can't comment on performance. The delivery was great and I'm very happy with the price and the service I recieved from GR8 Fires. Would recommmend this stove if 4kw is what you are looking for, Only needs a decorative hearth to comply with the regs so if your installation site has no constructional hearth already there then this burner would fit straight in.

Super little stove
Delivery awful, rude driver, came on the wrong day. Stove itself superb. Very small firebox, and takes a bit of getting to know, but once you have mastered its dear little quirks, it looks after itself. Good heat output and very efficient burning. Looks pretty, too.

No problems - great little stove
The stove was delivered promptly and the delivery driver unloaded it and took it to the garage door - after reading some reviews we expected it to be left on the roadside but he was very helpful. We have now had the stove fitted and it is great. No problems at all. We don't have a huge lounge and didn't need a large stove but it keeps us nice and cosy. Its also easy to light. Not tried to keep it in all night as the weather has been fairly mild but will have a go when it gets colder. Thanks.

Awesome little stove
I only needed a small stove and this little bad boy is unreal for the money, the build quality is unreal for what I paid, I've got an 8kw stove in my front room and this chucks as much heat out as that. I've tried different fuels coal logs and briquets, in my opinion the briquets are the best,

Beautiful little stove.
A great Stove, and fast delivery, I bought all the flu work for it, and it took me half a day to fit the stove and the flu in my works shop, climbing up on the roof to cut the hole, and fit the double skinned chimney and cowl was a bit scary, but job done, then came the moment of lighting up the stove, no problems, the stove just fired up beautifully, fiddled about with the primary air and secondary air inlets, and got it burning just right, it did not take long to warm up the workshop, very pleased with everything, now I can spend winter day's and evenings in the warm, just the right job, :)

best small stove available at a good price
i made a good search for a small stove and am very happy with the quality and price of the mariner 4 (hamlet hardy 4) made by arada. There are some smaller woodburners around but they usually dont have glass or grate, this was the smallest multifuel stove for just a few quid more. Stove was despatched quickly by Gr8 fires and arrived well packed on a small pallet.

Not for me.
Gutted!
Even after research and conversation with customer services I received a different model to the one I ordered and furthermore the model supplied is wrongly advertised as being a 'Multi Fuel' stove. It cannot be used to burn House Coal? If I'd been advised of this as I requested initially by Customer Services then I would most certainly have shopped elsewhere. Nowhere in the item description is this very important factor mentioned, not until you've opened the box and read the instructions.
So. If you want to be an "Eco Warrior' and burn the expensive 'Eco Fuels', then fine.
I don't !

Gr8 fires reply: We are sorry to hear of your disappointment, you are welcome to return the unused item for a refund. House coal is not recommended for use in any of our multifuel stoves. It contains coke. Back in the day Coke was the fuel of choice for iron works and foundries because it burned so hot it was just the thing for melting iron. There aren't that many foundries about these days and so there is excess coke on the market. It makes its way into blended products labeled as house coal because the high temperatures aren't too damaging in an open fire where the airflow is much greater around the grate. The conditions in a stove are a lot more confined and the high heat which is released so quickly with house coal can cause premature wear of the internal components such as grate bars liners and baffles. Manufacturers prefer anthracite because it burns in a more controlled way.
Over firing of the stove causes pitting and cracking of the vermiculite liners, drooping or buckled baffles, drooping and burnt through grates and grate bars. In extreme cases the stove body can buckle. You can protect against this by investing in a stove pipe or stove top thermometer and using approved fuels. If in doubt talk to your coal merchant for mineral fuels suitable for closed appliances such as stoves.

Hard to fault
I'm very happy with the quality of my little stove and with the service from gr8 fires.
It is ideal for my little fireplace where it will be used as a focus and an occasional room heater in a centrally heated house.
It burns very hot, emits a huge amount of heat and my only criticism to date would be the glass blackening as a wood fire dies overnight. I'm not sure whether any stove can prevent this happening?
Gr8 fires price seems a bargain which trounces any competition and a free heat resisting glove and free flue pipe made the deal amazing.

A brilliant fire!
Because of the small cavity, we were limited in choice of fire. When l saw the photo of the fire, l thought it looked 'a bit cheap and flimsy ' and wouldn't ' pack a punch' ; however after reading the great reviews, thought that l would order one. And boy l'm so glad l did!! It's a super little fire, a modern but classical design AND it does 'pack a punch!' Our cats love it too!

This is a great little fire, in conjunction with an eco fan it heats the whole length of our narrowboat very efficiently. It arrived when they said it would but, confusingly, was labelled on the box as an 'Athlone Villager' not the 'GBS Mariner' we ordered. On checking on-line we found that the two stoves were identical anyway, so no problem although we'd have been grateful for some form of reassurance with the delivery that this was the case.

In general: good product, good price and prompt delivery.

I purchased this burner for my 20ft caravan and I cant rate it enough. Its very small and compact and not so heavy. The draft control is the best I have ever had and I've had a few stoves in my life time. And the best thing about it is its ability to stay in for hours. It lasts all night on 3 dry sycamore logs. It came well packaged and perfectly on time. It heats the caravan up in minutes after being lit. Have not yet tried it on smokeless fuel as I have a good log supply but I'm sure it will live up to expectations.

GR8 stove
Bought one of these last year. What a fantastic little stove, heats most of downstairs and genuinely cut our heating bill by about £150 last winter compared to the previous... Cleans up beautifully and looks like new 1 year on even with quite heavy use. Very easy to control the heat output with the two vents, highly recommended.

A crackin' little stove!
We've had this little stove installed on our narrowboat for a week now and it has really surpassed our expectations. We needed a controllable stove which we could keep burning overnight on a gentle heat. Reading the other reviews we worried it might be too hot for our small space, however it actually does the job fantastically! Fill it up, shut the controls down and it'll burn gently for over 10 hours! Now we wake up every morning to a toasty warm boat! Judging by the fine powdery ash that is left behind it uses fuel really efficiently - other stoves we've had have produced lumpy, half burned grit by comparison. It's a perfect compact size for a narrowboat and the value for money and service we received from Gr8 Fires was excellent too!

Gr8 little stove
Delivery was fast and stove was packed excellently. Fitted our fireplace well and looks lovely in our tiled fire surround. It throws out good heat and burns fuel economically. We are very pleased with it.

What a superb room heater! The stove arrived in good time (I live in the north of Scotland) and was very well packaged. Well done gr8t Fires! Installation was easy and the first light was a delight! The wee thing packs a punch and is bonny too. Perfect.

Stunning Stove
We have a narrow hearth and the Mariner 4 has proved itself perfect in every way! With such a reasonable price, doubts about the quality nagged initially, but the instant I was told our free delivery would be made within a couple of days, I knew we had gone to a fantastic supplier. Our driver was patience-personified, returning to our house after we were out on his first attempt.
And the best things certainly come in small packages- together with being absolutely gorgeous, this tiny stove chucks out the heat and burns very efficiently too. The heat-proof glove supplied free with it is an essential piece of kit- why don't all stoves come with this??
All-round brilliant service and a stunning stove.

Great Narrowboat Stove
This stove arrived in perfect condition on an pallet, very quickly. The quality of welds is excellent. The Mariner 4 is the same as a Villager Athlone 1 and others. Now I realise the associated makes that are simillar/same it shows what good value this stove is compared to the usual favourites for Narrowboats. The flues supplied are good in fit and finish too. Fitted and running in under 3 hours ( including taking out the old stove and laying a new hearth of Alloy 5 bar plate).
There was a good deal of volatiles driven off as the paint cured, setting off the smoke alarm!
Once settled in the consumption of anthracite was a stove full lasting 15 hours !!!!! WOW !
Burns dry Oak logs very efficiently.
This stove is very controllable and really blasts out the heat at full chat, more than enough for our 45ft Tug.
Airwash for the door glass is very good.
Free glove is lovely.
Replaceable hearth bars are trick design. Vermiculite fire bricks make it light to lift into place.

Only criticism is the deflector plate would vibrate out of place with big engine running in a narrowboat, I cured this before fitting to the boat with a bolt as a stay at the front of the plate to the front of the stove above the door.

I wish we had a bigger boat so we could fit one at each end, HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
