Create the wood panelling media wall look
Wood panelling media walls are one of the hottest living room design trends at the moment.
Many of our customers are using acoustic wood panelling to create an eye-catching feature wall around their media wall electric fires.
In this article, we're going to share some of the wood panelling media walls created by our customers. Hopefully, this will give you lots of design inspiration to create your very own acoustic wood panel media wall.
How to build a wood panelling media wall
The basic steps for building an acoustic wood panelling are the same as you would follow when building a media wall of any description. These include:
- Building a head plate and foot plate
- Fitting vertical studs
- Adding horizontal supports
- Installing your electric fire
- Cladding your media wall
Follow our detailed, step-by-step guide on how to build a media wall. Once your media wall is clad, you can fit acoustic wood panelling in the areas you want to be finished in wooden panelling.

Benefits of wood panelling media wall designs
Installing a wood panelling media wall has many advantages. They include:
Inexpensive design feature
Wood panelling is a relatively inexpensive way to decorate and add a design feature to a relatively large surface area of your wall.
Easy installation
Acoustic panelling is usually very easy to install. This can usually be achieved in very little time and with only minimal DIY skills.
Add texture
Wooden slats instantly add texture to your room. If your media wall — or the space around it — comprises large expanses of smooth surfaces, acoustic panelling breaks that up to create some visual variety.
Better sound
Acoustic panels were initially created not as a design feature but as a sound dampener. If your media wall is going to be equipped with powerful sound equipment, wood panelling could have a practical as well as aesthetic use.
Examples of wood panelling media walls
Let's take a look at some of the best examples of different types of wooden slat media wall designs.

Acoustic panelling media wall alcoves
One popular design idea is to finish the alcoves at either side of a false chimney breast-style media wall in wooden slats.
The acoustic panelling media wall alcoves are neatly demonstrated in this project by BB Joinery & Kitchens.

@athomewithnaiome_ has achieved a similar look with full-length wooden slats alongside her Ezee Glow Celestial self-build media wall kit.

Even from these two examples, you can see that the width of the wooden slats and the spacing between them can create subtly different looks.
Wooden panelling media wall shelves
A nice variation on the acoustic panelling media wall alcove is the use of alcove shelving. Again, the space at either side of the media wall is adorned with wooden slats.
But in this design, the panelling forms the back of alcove shelving space. This can help to break up a large expanse of acoustic panelling, as well as providing useful storage or display space. This media wall, built by M&C Media Walls, is a lovely case in point.

This Ezee Glow 72" Celestial Built-In Electric Fire media wall, built by J Rose Carpentry, comprises different-sized alcoves, each backed by acoustic panelling.

Wooden slats behind TV media wall
One option to help your TV really pop from a media wall is to add wooden slats behind the TV itself. That's the route KJM Plastering took for this project.
Their customer opted for walnut acoustic panelling for a darker finish than some of those we've featured so far.

They've replicated a similar look on this Ezee Glow 72" Celestial Media Wall, again opting for the walnut acoustic panelling.

This look can be very effective for avoiding too much white space, especially if you want to leave room to upgrade to a bigger TV at some point in the future. Learn more about finding the right size TV for your media wall.
Floor-to-ceiling wooden panelling media wall
Another design idea is to set your media wall against floor-to-ceiling acoustic panelling. That's how the Ezee Glow Celestial 72" Electric Fire Self Build Media Wall Kit. This can really help to turn your media wall into the focal point of the room.

@stavertonmanorhome has done something similar here, albeit with the addition of a low shelving or bench space.

Floating media wall with acoustic panelling
Acoustic panelling can create the perfect backdrop to a floating media wall. Simply construct the components of your media wall, then install them against full-wall wooden slats.
That's exactly what Cine Spark did here with grey wooden slats and the Ezee Glow Grand Zara Recessed Electric Fire.

Here's @jon_feeney_uk's version of this look, featuring black wooden slats and the Ezee Glow 72" Celestial Media Wall Fire.

Wood panelling clad media wall
Some of our customers choose to keep the acoustic panelling solely on the media wall itself. The structure of the media wall is clad in wooden slats, while the surrounding walls don't have any panelling.
Zac Dust Carpentry has achieved precisely that finish on this project.

Here's another example, this time from @thehomeofjade. This pale panelling fits perfectly with the neutral tones of the living room.

@the_chapel_conversion opted for a slight variation on the theme for this wonderful floating media wall, which is partly clad in acoustic panelling.

Full-wall acoustic panelling media wall
For the all-out wooden panelling look, you could opt for full-wall acoustic panelling. To create this look, the entire media wall and the walls adjacent to it are clad with wooden slats.
This project by Bespoke Media Walls & Panelling is a great illustration of this wood panelling look.
