Media Wall Before & After: See How this Media Wall Build Progressed

See how this Ezee Glow Celestial media wall build progressed from a plain, new-build living room to a beautiful contemporary design feature.

For Chantal Colairo, of Instagram account @thecolairowesleyhome, adding a media wall to her home was a long-term goal when she and husband John got the keys to their new-build home.

"Ever since we moved into our home I knew I wanted to add a modern feature in our living room for our TV," says Chantal. "I genuinely didn’t want to spend money on TV tables or have hanging wires if we put it onto the wall, so we waited and got our media wall booked in."

A quick scroll through the Instagram account today shows the finished media wall in all its glory. But it wasn't always that way.

Chantal has shared a series of photos showing how the room transformed from a standard, boxy new-build living room into a space with far more comfort, cosiness and personality.

Before: Plain, no personality

The starting point was what Chantal describes as a "new build, very plain living room".

She added: "Everyone says new builds are boring and have no character but they are wrong. New builds are a total blank canvas ready for us to put our stamp on it."

And that's exactly what Chantal and John set about doing.

Getting started with media wall planning

The project started in earnest in January 2024, when the couple bought an Ezee Glow 50" Celestial Media Wall Fire to take centre stage in the new features. They also began plotting out the design on the wall.

Building the media wall frame

The design really started to take shape when the media wall frame was built and the markings on the wall became a real structure. "The house was a mess," jokes Chantal, "But the frame started to go up finally."

The built-in electric fire was slotted into place ready for the next stage.

By the time the plasterboard was added to the frame, you could already see the impact the new feature would have on the look and feel of the living room.

"The vision started to become reality," says Chantal. "The frame was then boarded and ready for plastering."

Plastering the media wall

That vision was only enhanced once the media wall was plastered. Chantal and John were in the home straight at this stage and started to turn their attention to the finishing touches. This included the media wall lighting, TV bracket and doors for a pair of cupboards incorporated into the design.

Chantal explained: "I love our new build but it lacked storage. This was the perfect way to hide those bits and bobs you don’t want to keep out!

"In my case, my gym weights are all tucked up nicely in there for my home workouts and hubby’s got the other side with all the tech stuff."

A big moment given the motivation for the media wall build was the TV being installed on its bracket. "The TV was definitely on the floor for a solid six months," says Chantal.

After that it was time for the finishing touches: painting the media wall, adding decorative detailing to the cupboards and dressing the media wall.

After: the complete media wall

At that stage, Chantal and John could sit back, watch the TV and enjoy their cosy new living room.

Chantal said: "I get so many messages asking about our fire. It’s gorgeous, slimline, has great colours, and not to mention the heat from it is so cosy!"

The cosy ambience and homely vibes are occasionally interrupted... but usually only for 90 minutes or so when John likes to take advantage of the Ezee Glow Celestial's array of LED flame and fuel-bed colour options.

"John loves all things blue when Chelsea are playing which defo spoils my whole aesthetic," jokes Chantal. "It’s not just the fire that goes blue the whole wall does too!"

Perhaps unsurprisingly, photo evidence has not made it to the couple's Instagram grid!

Reflecting on the project, Chantal says: "Media walls can be fun! There are so many different styles out there and they are definitely a great way to add more storage, which every home needs.

"Not to mention it makes your home that much more stylish."
